It all started with an experimental cold frame that we built with our old windows and a packet of tomato seeds. The year was 2007, and we threw our tomato seeds helter-skelter into this small cold frame on a cold Wisconsin day in March. We both had corporate jobs at the time and never watered or tended to these soon-forgotten seeds. By early summer, these plants were thriving and producing fruit. We couldn’t believe they had survived the temperature swings of early spring.
Since then, we have been researching, experimenting and testing the various effects that temperature and climate have on different plants in southeastern Wisconsin. Our first official project was a passive solar greenhouse that utilized large amounts of stored water as a “heat source”. In 2014, we moved to our farm and installed our first commercial high tunnel to cover more growing space. We continue to add more raised beds to increase our growing capacity while still focusing on the benefits of market gardening.
Our passion is to supply our local area with fresh, sustainable produce most of the year and also to educate and inspire others to take control of their own diets.
